Chapter 79: Detour to Another Realm – Bridge to Olyndora Has Fallen

The bullet hung in the air, a heartbeat away from Carabosse’s forehead.
Petyr’s hand finally reaches her shoulder, but he’s already too late to shove her aside.
Then… WHOOOOOSHH!
In an instant faster than the wind, someone appeared in front of Carabosse and caught the bullet in her palm.
Ryo’s breath caught in shock. “Who in the world…?”
Dureifa released her tight hug on White Rabbit. Finally, he could breathe again as she gently set him down on the ground.
Petyr Pann’s jaw dropped, eyes wide.
He muttered under his breath, disbelief dripping from every word.
“That… that was way too close! No way… she literally caught a speeding bullet in midair, like one of those over-the-top heroic characters who show up in the nick of time and don’t even get a scratch!”
Agnar crushed the bullet effortlessly in her palm, letting the fragments fall to the ground. She then turned her piercing gaze toward Ryo, deadly glint in her eyes.
“You sure have the nerves to shoot our Crown Prosecutor, huh… Surface Man?” she whispered, voice cold and sharp as a blade.
Ryo’s eyes widened, lowering his gun instinctively, thought. “Crown… Prosecutor?”
Agnar began to stride toward him, the air around her thickening, heavy with authority and menace.
Ryo gulped.
She leaned in close, raising a fist near his face, her voice low and lethal.
“It is against Wonderland’s law—and punishable by death—to shoot our Crown Prosecutors.”
She opened her hand in a give-me gesture. “Hand over your gun, and accept your death penalty.”
White Rabbit waved both paws frantically. “Wait! General Agnar! He’s—”
“DON’T STOP ME, WHITE RABBIT!” Agnar shouted, eyes blazing. “WHAT HE JUST DID… WAS ATTEMPTED MURDER!”
Ryo wasn’t happy to hear that.
He narrowed his eyes, voice calm and steady. “So… you’re also one of those characters, huh? The kind who loves the classic ‘I’d rather misunderstand the situation and cause trouble’ trope and then kill the innocent. You’re no better than Cinderella’s mom before she hit her revival arc. Same energy, same script, same recycled drama.”
He pocketed his gun and his Arabian dagger.
Agnar’s teeth gritted. Her eyes flared like twin infernos. “What did you just say about me?! And you—just put your weapons away instead of surrendering them!”
Ryo placed a palm over his chest, voice calm but cutting. “My name is Ryo Kuroda, AKA ‘Surface Man,’ since you all seem to prefer calling me that. I’m Alice’s new defense attorney, hired by the White Rabbit.”
Agnar blinked, stunned. “Eh?!”
“And for the record,” Ryo continued, his tone steady, “I wasn’t the one who attacked first.” He pointed directly at Carabosse. “That young lady there unleashed her spell at me—ready to incinerate me—because she has a personal grudge.”
Carabosse flinched, stammering. “N-n-no… I…”
Ryo squinted at her. “Ah, there it is. The classic ‘denial but can’t explain’ trope. Typical villain trying to cover their mess.”
Agnar turned sharply. “Carabosse! Is this true? Explain yourself! Attacking a defense attorney is forbidden unless the attorney has already lost!”
Carabosse panicked internally, scrambling for an excuse, but before she could open her mouth—
Petyr Pann suddenly bowed. “APOLOGIES FOR THE DISGRACE!”
He shoved Carabosse forward by the back and added, lying through his teeth, “Ms. Carabosse has been having a very rough day—ahaha! Let’s go, Your Grace!”
Carabosse wanted to kill the detective so badly right now, but Petyr was trying to defuse things before they got ugly. Understanding this, Carabosse sighed and, resigned, walked off with Petyr until they were finally out of the scene.
Agnar bowed her head. “My sincerest apologies for misunderstanding you.”
“It’s okay,” Ryo said. Then he asked, “Can you tell me what you mean by her being the Queen’s Crown Prosecutor?”
Agnar explained: Carabosse was the newly appointed Crown Prosecutor under the Queen of Hearts. Before she arrived, Petyr Pann had held the position as the Queen’s main Crown Prosecutor.
Ryo raised a brow, puzzled. How could an immature kid like Petyr Pann be chosen over countless more mature candidates in Wonderland? Agnar answered that the Queen simply found it amusing to appoint someone childish, reckless, and from the Upper Worlds—purely to mock Alice, the accused.
“Wait a minute…” Ryo thought. “Petyr Pann is not from the Fairytale world?”
Because this is definitely strange. In the original Peter Pan story, the protagonist is a fairytale character. And now this spin-off version of him is from above the earth’s surface? Sure, his story began in England, but Neverland is a completely different world—almost a dreamlike realm.
And the fact that the Queen of Hearts had been using Petyr Pann in all her previous courtroom battles just for her own amusement, knowing she’d still win?
Now that’s even more cruel.
White Rabbit tugged on Ryo’s coat.
Ryo looked down. “What is it?”
White Rabbit’s face darkened. He glanced at Agnar with fear in his eyes, then whispered.
“Pick me up for a bit, Sir Detective… and hug me.”
Ryo deadpanned. “Huh?”
“Just do it!” White Rabbit whispered sharply.
Ryo noticed the caution in his expression—something was wrong. So he picked him up, holding him like a baby, White Rabbit’s head resting on his shoulder. Then, quietly, the rabbit whispered everything he knew about Agnar.
Ryo’s eyes widened in horror.
He masked it instantly, forcing his expression back to neutral so Agnar wouldn’t grow suspicious.
Agnar tilted her head slightly, wondering what they were whispering about.
Agnar… one of the Queen of Hearts’ Five Blighted Deities?
Even the title itself sounded wrong.
Here’s what Ryo learned through White Rabbit’s trembling whisper:
The Five Blighted Deities are the Queen of Hearts’ strongest and cruelest generals in Wonderland. They are deities who abandoned their own realms, swore loyalty to her, and carry out her cruel orders without hesitation.
And yes, Ryo believed the White Rabbit immediately, because White Rabbit had also told him that these Blighted Deities were the ones who had been dragging their own people from their realms and handing them over to the Queen of Hearts for her “playtime” executions.
These Blighted Deities are no better than the Queen of Hearts. They are willing to commit the cruelest acts just to satisfy her every whim.
Agnar was no exception. She was just as dangerous.
This was when Ryo realized… he had to be extremely careful around her.
And another shocking piece of information Ryo learned from White Rabbit’s whisper was that Agnar is Agni’s disciple—one who went terribly astray. Long ago, Agni taught her the power of the sacred flame, but his teachings weren’t enough for her.
Agnar wanted more power.
So when she entered Wonderland through a rabbit hole in India, she eventually met the Queen of Hearts. The Queen told her she could grow stronger if she became blighted. At first, Agnar hesitated and refused to commit evil.
But the day the Queen threatened to evict her from Wonderland unless she killed someone, Agnar had no choice. And the worst part? When she was forced to kill an innocent but powerful man right in front of the Queen… to her own surprise, Agnar didn’t hate it. She was thrilled. She realized she could grow stronger by committing more evil.
That was the moment she chose to serve the Queen of Hearts—devoting herself fully to cruelty under the Queen’s guidance.
Sure, right now Agnar was being respectful in front of Ryo and the White Rabbit. But Ryo had a feeling… under the Queen of Hearts’ orders, Agnar would likely kill him and the White Rabbit without hesitation.
Thankfully, thanks to Alice winning the pretend trial, killing was temporarily forbidden.
But the messed-up part? They could still injure people—half to death, if they wanted.
Ryo believed this too, because earlier, Agnar had shouted at Carabosse: “Attacking a defense attorney is forbidden… unless the attorney has already lost!”
And it wasn’t just that… when Höðr lost his trial while trying to defend Alice, the Queen of Hearts sliced his eyes with a knife, leaving him blind—her bloody hobby too strong to resist.
So Ryo knew he had to handle this situation carefully in front of Agnar.
He gently placed the White Rabbit down, then put on a fake smile and lied. “Sorry about that, Sir… Hops-a-lot started feeling lonely.”
The White Rabbit gazed down, pretending to be bashful. “Yes… I, uh… was feeling lonely.”
Agnar crossed her arms. “I see… Anyways, Alice’s final trial is in five days. What are your plans here in Wonderland before then?”
“We’re gonna go back to the Olyndora Realm. I need to start my investigation before the final trial begins,” Ryo answered.
Agnar narrowed her eyes.
She already knew it was pointless.
No matter how much he investigated… the Queen of Hearts would still win in the end.
And deep inside her mind, knowing this new defense attorney would still lose, something twisted began to stir.
Agnar clenched her fist.
A dark, wild thrill crawled up her spine—an excitement she tried desperately to restrain. Her fingers trembled. Her breath hitched. Her lips twitched, fighting the urge to pull into a twisted smile.
She was imagining it.
His blood.
His body collapsing.
The Queen’s command echoing in her ears—permission to kill.
And she would enjoy every second of it.
A faint shiver of murderous joy flickered in her eyes.
Ryo’s gaze subtly dropped to her clenched fist.
He knew exactly what she was thinking.
Agnar exhaled, forcing herself back into composure, then smiled softly. “Very well. I wish you luck on your investigation.”
Then she turned toward Dureifa and commanded sharply. “My Royal Hearts! Return to your duty!”
Dureifa stiffened, then nodded nervously. “Y-Y-Yes, General…”
As she passed Ryo, she whispered quickly. “I’m counting on you to save Alice.”
She hurried away to resume her duties.
“Guess there are some decent Card Soldiers in support of Alice, huh…” Ryo thought.
Agnar also departed, the air feeling lighter the moment she was gone.
Ryo and White Rabbit turned toward the stone Sun Wukong statue.
Ryo smiled softly at it. “Don’t worry, my idol. We’ll get that amulet for you and un-stone you no matter what.”
Then the two of them headed off toward the path leading back to the Greek Realm of Olyndora.
The time in Wonderland was now 3 PM.
Ryo tired again. "I swear… all this walking is too damn tiring, I need a break."
He slumped dramatically, dragging his feet as if he had just completed an expedition along the Nile River—twice.
White Rabbit tilted his head. "As mentioned before, sir—"
But Ryo immediately cut him off. "Yeah yeah… the story is fictional and smaller compared to this REAL version of Wonderland."
White Rabbit exhaled deeply, ears drooping lower. "I still cannot believe it…"
"Something on your mind?" Ryo asked.
White Rabbit clutched his head, trembling with worry.
"I never thought the Queen of Hearts would appoint a new Crown Prosecutor. What shall we do…? And to think that you knew them too…"
Ryo smiled reassuringly. "Don’t worry, I’ll make sure the corruption doesn’t get to me. I’ll blast them away with powerful words."
White Rabbit still wasn’t convinced. "I do hope so…"
Finally, they reached the bridge to Olyndora. The waterfall thundered and roared below.
Both stopped at the beginning of the stone bridge.
Ryo stretched his arms. "Alright… let’s get to work."
They stepped forward—
But before their feet touched the bridge…
Tick… tick… tick... tick... tick…
Both froze instantly.
Ryo looked around sharply. "What’s that sound?"
White Rabbit looked around too, confused. "I have never heard such sounds before when crossing this bridge…"
Then they noticed it—a small device sitting in the middle of the bridge.
Ryo squinted and leaned forward slightly. "Is that… a walkie-talkie?"
It wasn’t just any walkie-talkie—
It was stark white, decorated with delicate heart motifs.
White Rabbit stepped forward. "Let me see—"
But Ryo suddenly held out an arm, stopping him. "Hold on… something doesn’t feel right."
Tick… tick-tick-tick-tick…
That sound.
Ryo’s blood froze.
He knew that ticking.
It was a sound every officer never forgets.
Then—
BZZZZZT!
The walkie-talkie radio crackled violently, like a scream caught in static.
Ryo and White Rabbit jerked in place.
Then a voice burst out. "CURSE YOU, WHITE RABBIIIIIIIT!!"
White Rabbit shrieked. "EEE—EEK!!" hiding behind Ryo like a terrified child.
Ryo stared at the device. "Now who the hell is that?"
White Rabbit’s voice trembled as he whispered the bombshell. "That voice… the sound from that device… i-it’s the Queen of Hearts."
Ryo spun his head toward him. “Eh?! That’s the Queen?!”
The Queen’s voice exploded from the radio like a demon unleashed.
"I HEARD EVERYTHING FROM AGNAR! I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD NEVER REACH WONDERLAND, NOT AFTER I SEALED THE RABBIT HOLE IN UENO PARK! BUT YOU STILL FOUND ANOTHER ONE—AN ALTERNATIVE HOLE I COULD NOT CONTROL!"
"AND YOU—BRINGING A NEW DEFENSE FOR THAT PATHETIC ALICE?! I WANT TO KILL! I WANT TO KILL! I WANT TO KIIIIILL! I AM SO BOOOORED! DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN SINCE I MURDERED SOMEONE FOR FUN?!"
Her breathing became rapid, unhinged, ecstatic.
"BLOOD! RED! EVERYWHERE! MY FAVORITE COLOR! SCREAMS! MY FAVORITE SOUND! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I WANT TO KIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!!!"
Her voice hit a fever pitch.
"FORGET THE COURT TRIAL! I DEMAND AN INSTANT VERDICT! OFF WITH ALICE’S HEAD—NOW!!!"
Ryo was stunned. "Are you kidding me?! This Queen is way beyond a mere psychopath!"
Meanwhile, inside her palace…
The Queen’s twisted grin widened as she lifted a small switch.
She pressed it.
Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeee—
That sound.
Ryo’s eyes widened.
He knew that sound.
"BOMB!” He screamed. "GET AWAY FROM THE BRIDGE NOW!"
White Rabbit froze, confused—
But Ryo didn’t wait.
He snatched him up without a second thought and sprinted back.
TIIIIIIIICK!
KABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!
The walkie-talkie detonated with earth-shattering force, and the stone bridge to Olyndora blew apart in a colossal explosion. Rocks tore free, crashing into the waterfall below. Dust and smoke choked the air, and tremors shook everything around them.
BOULDERS.
DUST.
SHOCKWAVES.
Ryo flew off his feet—
he slammed into the ground with a heavy thud, still clutching the White Rabbit in his arms.
“Ugh… are you freaking kidding me…” he groaned, releasing the White Rabbit and pushing himself up.
White Rabbit rolled out of his arms, shaking his head. "T-that hurts…"
Both of them looked up at the wreckage.
And their breath caught.
The bridge was gone.
Completely obliterated.
Nothing left but smoke and shattered rubble falling into the waterfall below.
Guards on the Olyndora side yelled in panic. “Sir Surface Man! Chronos! Are you hurt?!”
“We’re fine! Just… covered in dust!” Ryo answered, waving.
“M-my ears are ringing, but I’m alive!” White Rabbit shouted, holding his ear.
Ryo and White Rabbit slowly stood up, brushing dust and bits of debris off their clothes.
Ryo let out a long exhale. "Now what the hell are we gonna do? We’re supposed to meet up with that brat Zeuras…"
He dragged a hand down his face. "And of course Agnar had to sell us out to the Queen immediately. I knew she was suspicious, even with how respectful she acted earlier."
White Rabbit straightened himself, ears twitching. "Then… we will have to start from elsewhere instead of Olyndora."
Ryo looked at him. "Okay… let’s hear what you have in mind."
White Rabbit explained. "Every realm in Wonderland surrounds the central hub in a circle. If we cannot enter Olyndora from here, then we start at the nearest point in the circle—the Egyptian realm of Ekhropolis. After Ekhropolis, we continue around: Mydrovith, then Xianglura, then Ashvanyara… and finally, once we complete the full rotation, we will return to Olyndora."
Ryo nodded. "Got it."
He turned to the Olyndora guards, cupping both hands around his mouth as he shouted.
"REPORT TO THAT BRAT ZEURAS THAT WE’RE TAKING A DETOUR TO ANOTHER REALM BEFORE WE HEAD BACK TO OLYNDORA!"
The guards saluted, shouting back their acknowledgment before rushing toward the Cloud Spire to deliver the message.
Ryo turned to White Rabbit, gesturing grandly. "Please lead the way, Sir Hops-a-lot."
White Rabbit squinted, unimpressed. "I am… quite surprised at myself that I’m starting to get used to that terrible nickname."
Ryo chuckled. "Be proud of it. Unless you want me to rebrand you as something worse?"
White Rabbit did not answer. He refused to risk a name even more humiliating.
He simply turned and began walking, turning to the left side.
And Ryo followed him—
toward the vast unknown, stretching endlessly into shadow and light.
Above Wonderland, the sky twisted into strange, otherworldly colors, and distant thunder rumbled across the clouds, as if the kingdom itself were holding its breath.
A new path.
A new starting realm.
A new mystery.
The first step of a journey that would determine whether Alice would live—or be executed…
—and the very future of every citizen’s head in Wonderland.
Petyr’s hand finally reaches her shoulder, but he’s already too late to shove her aside.
Then… WHOOOOOSHH!
In an instant faster than the wind, someone appeared in front of Carabosse and caught the bullet in her palm.
