Chapter 1: Fate Begins to Move

     While Asuyadori was debating in the parliament, in the living room of the Yahata family home where Inaho lived, the aroma of dinner filled the air. Inaho shared today's events with her grandparents across the dining table. Her grandmother's words carried a hint of sighs.

     "When I heard the news, my blood ran cold. Truly, I'm relieved she's safe. But that foolish daughter of ours, abandoning her child like that what was she thinking?"
     Observing her stern-faced grandmother, Inaho swallowed the food in her mouth and vented the pent-up emotions.
     "However, today, when I saw it firsthand, I realized something. Our mother's extraordinary strength. It worries me... And she hasn't aged a bit. When I was born, she was a molecular biologist, right? She must be hiding something! Grandpa and Grandma, do you really know nothing?"
     Beside the silent grandfather, the grandmother resumed speaking.
     "That's right. The year you were born, she said that once her work settled down, she'd introduce you to your future partner, the newborn you. But shortly after, we received news that she had lost someone dear. She entrusted you to us, and that was it... She seemed to be locked away in the research institute, but the next year, she suddenly quit without revealing her destination. Our child was left behind. Even when she occasionally returned, she wouldn't say a word. I don't know what her intentions are, but somehow, she became a member of the Royal Guard, much to our surprise."
     "Hmm. Come to think of it, I've never heard anything about my father from Mom."
     "We still haven't been told his name either. Well, looking at Inaho, maybe he was an attractive man. Hard to believe the child of that poker-face."
     "Oh, stop it. I'm just average in looks and studies. Hehe."
     The grandmother's resigned tone suggested that she had given up on knowing what her daughter was carrying. Beneath her bashful smile, Inaho's worries continued to grow.
     Could her mother have acquired some significant power with a hefty price? Despite feeling a twinge of guilt, Inaho resolved to investigate her mother's past research alone.

     That night, in a more formal manner, Inaho surveyed the room that Meir had once used. However, it was filled with difficult to understand books. While her mother's brilliance as a researcher was evident, there were no clues about recent developments. Not even a single photograph of her father was there.

     Returning to her room, Inaho lay on her bed, lost in deep thought.

     "Even if I ask the institute, they'll probably refuse... Ah, no use! Maybe I'll watch a movie."
     To change her mood, she lazily powered up her mobile device. On the screen, spies battled against societal villains. Suddenly, she sat up on the bed.
     "This is it!"
     With determination, she stood up and began packing a few tools into her bag.


     Inaho welcomed the next morning. School was temporarily closed due to building repairs. Without wasting time, she set out to uncover her mother's secret.
     Skipping breakfast, she hurriedly left home and headed to the public tram station connecting to the neighboring town. On the way, for some reason, Inaho stopped by a pet shop. Inside the tram she boarded from the station, she opened her bag and began tinkering with something.

     Upon reaching her destination station, she walked a bit further and arrived at a facility surrounded by imposing walls. This was **Ohyama Biotech Corporation**, a company with vast grounds. Ostensibly, they engaged in a wide range of research and services, from genetic testing and artificial insemination for humans to wildlife biological examinations.

     At the entrance gate, Inaho donned fake glasses to appear scholarly. She tried to pass the security checkpoint nonchalantly, but predictably, her casual approach didn't work. The authentication device denied her entry.
     "Didn't I look like a researcher?" 
     In frustration, Inaho muttered.

     The security guard approached her. 
     "No can do, miss. You can't just enter."
     "What? But I came here for work!"
     "Work? Where's your ID?"
     "Well, um, my ID... I might look young, but I'm a respectable researcher! Yes, that's it. If you could contact Mr. Tanaka inside..."
     Inaho stammered, weaving a convenient lie, and slowly retreated. Just then, several cars arrived.

     The guard signaled entry permission, acknowledging the high-end car that had entered using facial recognition. In other words, it belonged to a company executive—the very person Inaho had her sights on. She had modified a pet tracking transmitter, discreetly attaching it to a corner of their vehicle while they were busy.

     Taking a breath in a secluded spot nearby, Inaho thought,
 "Phew, that was close! Spying isn't my forte. But now..."
     She pulled out her mobile device from her pocket. The map displayed several blinking markers.
     "My mother's secret research must have been left behind by the higher ups. That's how it plays out in the movie, too."
     With a somewhat absurd idea, Inaho felt a sense of accomplishment and began her back home.
