Chapter 1: Fate Begins to Move

     The girls glimpsed through the gap in the window. What they saw was a petite woman with hair like undyed silk and a white outline, descending gracefully from the sky. The Death Whistle Spider sensed something and tensed up, causing the circular organ on its head to glow purple. A low, dull sound resonated, and the nearby iron pillars and shutters began to emit faint sparks.
     However, right after the woman unsheathed her sword mid-air, three bright lines streaked across the Death Whistle Spider's head organ and leg joints. The massive creature staggered, perhaps from the intense blow it received. Undeterred, the woman kicked off, rolled in mid-air to cushion her landing, and closed the distance in an instant. She delivered a rapid flurry of strikes to the grotesque torso-like part of the spider.

     Shaking off the blood from her blade as she turned away, the woman kicked the severed leg aside. The Death Whistle Spider collapsed without much resistance.
     "That's not the one..." 
     The white-clad female swordsman murmured calmly. She sheathed her sword and communicated with someone.
     "Third Squad Leader here, Toyouke Meia. Elimination of the fleeing target complete. We haven't confirmed the Great Doddess's presence yet, but it seems the students are safe as far as we can see."

     Watching this scene unfold, Inaho rushed down the stairs from the second floor, her momentum almost causing her to tumble. She ran toward Meia.
     "Mom!"
     Inaho blurted out, her cheeks flushed. She looked away, trying to hide her embarrassment, but tears welled up in her eyes.

     Meia, not much taller than Inaho, stood out due to her petite frame. Her appearance was eerily youthful, and being called "mother" felt oddly out of place. 

     Meia frowned at Inaho's adorable said,
"You can still do childish things...Jeez..."
     Despite her gruff words, Meia's gaze softened. She awkwardly reached out and patted Inaho's head, her touch gentle.
     "It's been a while, Inaho."
     "Mmm,’It's been a while.’ It's not! You disappeared for five years after our last meeting! If you were nearby, couldn't you have at least contacted us? Grandpa and Grandma were rightfully upset!"
     "Ugh, don't be so prickly after our long-awaited reunion. The escort mission was top secret, so there was no helping it. My apologies! Really."
     After her apology, Meia lightly pushed away Inaho's wide forehead with her index finger, deflecting the girl's attempt to retaliate.

A friend who had followed them approached cautiously. "Hey, Inaho! You suddenly dashed out earlier. Are you okay? And who's that person? Do you know her?"
     "Yeah, she's my mom," Inaho replied, rubbing her forehead. She turned to her friend.
     "What? The strong person from earlier? Yeah, that's my mom. But wait, she's young, right? And super cute! She looks like a doll up close!"
     "Don't fawn over other people's parents, seriously..."
     Meia rolled her eyes, examining the injuries on both Inaho and her friend's arms. 
     "You're both injured. Come with me; I'll take a look."
     She headed toward the medical team.

     Suddenly, a majestic woman approached from somewhere, their presence commanding respect. Meia's expression changed when she noticed her. 
     "Great Deity!? Where have you been until now?"
     "Haha,I'll treat that wound.The other students were also safe."
     When she places her hand on them, their wounds heal in no time.
     In a different tone and demeanor from earlier, Inaho, looking somewhat uneasy, introduced herself. 
     "I'm Inaho Toyouke. Thank you for your assistance, Great Deity!"
     The two bewildered girls stared at the woman addressed as the Great Deity. Then, with a hint of panic, they bowed their heads.
     "Wait, is this real? I'm Araboshi Kunugi... Oops, I bit my tongue."

     As the girls exchanged surprised glances, the Great Deity Asuyadori smiled gently.
     "Fawning over me isn't necessary. Now, let's address the matter at hand. I've been discreetly observing this heartwarming reunion. However, it seems we've neglected the unsightly remnants of the Kubannda." 
     She gestured toward the Kubannda corpses strewn about.
     With an apologetic smile, Asuyadori interrupted,
"I'm sorry to interrupt this lovely moment, but I must return to my duties. The escort team is waiting, and I wouldn't want to inconvenience them."
     Said Asuyadori. With a light bow, she turned away from them and started to leave with Meia. However, she paused for a moment and looked up at a tree growing in the schoolyard.
     "That parent bird was skilled at nest-building. It didn't even flinch during the earlier impact, and the chicks seem to be safe. Perhaps this city also needs walls. It's unfortunate that members of the squad have already sacrificed themselves. Even with the power that governs nature in Akitsukuni, death and new threats remain beyond my understanding."
     Asuyadori wore a melancholic expression. At that moment, Meia turned to face Inaho.
     "I forgot to mention. I'll definitely be back this summer," she said.
With those words, Meia and Asuyadori, the highest god of Akitsukuni, departed to rejoin the escort team. In Inaho's face as she watched their departure, there was a mix of joy, a hint of sadness, and a newfound sense of concern.


     Several hours later, at the main entrance of the Akitsukuni Central Conference Hall, adults in formal attire awaited the arrival of Asuyadori, who was surrounded by guards. One of those waiting stepped forward and bowed deeply.
     "Asuyadori-sama, we are relieved to see you unharmed. We've been on edge after hearing about the incident. We've made arrangements to delay the opening of the session. Would you like to take a short break?"
     "I appreciate your concern, Governor. However, it's unnecessary. Now that the threat of the dark aberrations in the urban areas has become a reality, we must move swiftly to address political matters. Let the session begin as scheduled," replied Asuyadori, nodding as the attendees began to enter.
     And so, the various agenda items continued, as Akitsukuni gradually sought to transform itself.
