Chapter 1: Fate Begins to Move

     The parent bird was busily carrying food to its chicks. During the break after the second period, Inaho, lost in thought in the classroom, was resting her cheek on her hand while gazing at the bird's nest atop a tree outside the window. A girl with a playful demeanor called out to her.
     "what's up?you  are absent-minded.Got a crush on someone?"
     "It's not that, really."
     "Bo-ring."
     While Inaho was still absent-minded, the girl changed the topic.
     "Hey, have you written it yet? The course selection wish for the second year?"
     "Not yet. But I'm thinking of the Royal Guard Cadet course."
     "Really? That's unexpected. So we'll be in different classes from the second year... I'm too scared, so maybe the Shrine Maiden Cadet for me."

     As they continued to chat, a sudden, serious alert resounded throughout the school, and the classroom was enveloped in an unusual atmosphere.
     "What? What's this? No way!"
     Her friend instinctively grabbed Inaho's arm, seeking comfort from her smaller frame. Immediately after, an announcement urging indoor evacuation was made, and metal shutters began to descend outside the windows.
     "It doesn't seem like a drill."
     Inaho looked around and put his hand on her.
     "Does that mean, a B-class or higher has appeared!? Right in the middle of the city? That can't be true, right?"
     Her friend couldn't hide her confusion. Then, just as the classroom began to shake, something huge collided with the shutters before they fully closed.

     With the roar, shattered window glass scattered into the room, and screams filled the air. Through the gaps in the destroyed door, the sound of something thrashing and the fear-filled screams of a man echoed repeatedly outside the school building.
     Voices of concern that someone might be attacked mixed with those tending to classmates injured by the broken glass.
     As the presence seemed to move away, Inaho cautiously peeked outside through the gaps in the broken shutters. Blood flowed from her hand placed near the window, but the abnormal situation and her curiosity pushed away the pain and her friend's advice to stay away from the window. As her eyes adjusted to the brightness outside, she immediately recognized the destroyer of the school building.

     A black spider-like figure. An aberrant creature, about 6 meters tall, with a predator's mouth resembling that of a human, was rampaging a few dozen meters away.
     "What is that?"
     Her friend, who had also cautiously joined her, gasped at the sight. Inaho kept her gaze fixed on it and spoke in a subdued voice.
     "That's the Death Whistle Spider... A-class specially designated dangerous creature, Kubanda."
     "That's the real Kubanda? The one we're told to run away from if we see it? And did you just say A-class!?"
     "Yeah, among them, the Death Whistle Spider is particularly ferocious. It mimics the death throes of its last prey when it cries, a creature with a cruel taste. Someone must have been eaten..."
     "Eaten... How can it appear in the middle of the city? What is the Public Security Bureau doing!"
     "The Public Security Bureau can probably only guide the evacuation of citizens. Kubanda has a special body that normal weapons can't affect, and against an A-class..."
     "So, with such an invincible monster rampaging so close, what's going to happen to us? I don't want to die yet! I still want to date a handsome guy, and I haven't tried the sweets at the new shop in front of the station."
     "Calm down! Look closely, it's not invincible... One of its legs is cut off. It wasn't just accidentally severed; 'someone slashed it.'"
     The sharp cut and the fact that someone had done it brought a shiver and slight relief to both of them.
     "Only the Royal Guard Special force can handle equipment for fighting Kubanda, so there must be someone nearby who can fight it!"
     Inaho said this while searching for any sign of such a person outside.
     "The RSF, they're the ones who guard the Great God, right? But the Great Shrine is beyond the mountain, right? We're going to Kubanda's stomach!"
     As her friend began to tear up again with anxiety, a woman's angry shout came from the rooftop.

     "Who's the idiot that let another wounded special A escape! Even feeding my subordinates as snacks! Send me that creature's resonance frequency now!"
     The woman, communicating with someone via a device, received some data and then operated a small device attached to her left arm. The sword at her waist emitted a high-pitched keening sound and began to glow faintly with a rainbow sheen, as if coated with pearl powder.
     The next moment, the woman's feet kicked off the edge of the school building, and she twisted her body as she leaped toward the Death Whistle Spider.
