　主人公の光一は、子供の頃から、パソコンおたくで、小さいころは、ネットワークを利用して、他人のパソコンやサーバに入り込んだり、成りすましなどをして、引きこもって遊んでいた。 　しかし、中学に入ってから、そういうことをしている他のハッカー達の行為が虚しくなってきた。悪さをするウィルスでトヤーく、正義のウィルスを作ることができないか考えるようになった。 　高校に入ってからは、ネットワーク型人工知能を作ることをめざし、コンピュータの頭脳にあたるＣＰＵ能力の高いコンピュータを求めて、ハッキングして利用するようになった。そんな中、アメリカ国防省ペンタゴンのスーパーコンピュータへのハッキングがばれてしまった。アメリカは容赦なく日本に圧力をかけて、光一は国家安全保障局にマークされ、人工知能を作る設備のある大学を目指したが、文部省へも圧力がかかっており、3流大学にしか合格できなかった。 　光一は、自暴自棄になり、研究・開発をやめてしまった。1回生の夏休み、ゲームセンターで、モンゴルのトヤーという女性に諭されて、もう一度、人工知能の研究開発をすすめるようになった。トヤーとは文通を始めるようになり、いつしか遠距離恋愛へ発展していった。 　しかし、光一は4回生になって、脳腫瘍にかかり、余命を告げられる。それでもトヤーは、光一を愛し、夏の終わりに入院している病院にやってきた。3日だけ外泊が許され、光一の下宿で、激しい激痛と快楽を繰り返した。 　2か月後、トヤーは妊娠して光一の子を産む決心を告げる。光一は、残される2人のために自分の意志をもった人工知能機能を作り加える決心をし、わずかな期間で全てを作り上げて逝った。 　その人工知能は学習を終え、1年後覚醒し、モンゴルの危機を救う中でトヤーや子供のことを思い出し、トヤーにコンタクトを取ろうとしたが、トヤーは不運なできごとでなくなっていた。
